Wishing and intention – what’s the difference?
If you’re relatively new to the Law of Attraction and consciously designing the life you desire, you’ll understandably have questions around how to make this happen. One of the biggest areas of confusion tends to be around the act of wishing versus intention – whether they’re the same thing and how you can better use them in your life. Here’s my take on wishing and intending – along with some simple steps to make your wishes come true!
Wishing and intention – what they are
When you wish for something, you want it to happen. You may even long for and desire it, but you’re hoping that something will happen that’s outside of your control to make it so. You’re not believing that you can have it and you’re certainly not acting like you want it – you’re don’t have the passion of the motivation to go out and make it happen.
On the other hand, when you intend something to happen, you’re putting your mind to work on a way to make it happen. You’re focusing on it, imagining how it will feel to have it and believing that you will have it, in the end. By putting the intention out there, you’re committing to play your part in making it happen, by implementing some action. Whether this means listening to your intuition and acting on those nudges, or planning a strategy with goals along the way – you’re prepared to put in the action.
Belief and action are the key distinction
It’s the belief and action, that turns a wish into an intention. You’re willing to break it down into an actionable goal, in order to make it happen. Yes, you can still put it out there for the Universe to deliver to you – but you’re still happy to put in some forward motion, to help bring it into your life.
As the well-known saying goes: ‘A goal without a plan, is just a wish.’
Turn your wishes into intentions
So, how can you turn your wishes into intentions?
#1: Make it a goal
Get your mind and emotions working for you. Why do you want this as a goal? What will it enable you to do and/or feel? How will it feel, once you have it – how you’re your life be different?
In order to make it actionable, you need to ensure it’s measurable and tangible. So, wanting to be happy needs to be a bit more specific, if you want to turn it into a goal. So, ask yourself: how will you know when you have it? What specific things make you happy? All goals need a deadline too, so when do you want to achieve it by?
#2: Now break it down
Now you can take that goal and break it down into more manageable, bite-sized chunks. Taking the example above, you’ll now have a list of specific things that make you happy – so each one of them can become a separate bite-sized actionable chunk. Give each chunk its own deadline too.
#3: Do something every day
Commit to completing an action step towards your goal, every day. No matter how big or small that task may be, it will help cement in your desire to have it, as well as giving you that forward motion of knowing you’re implementing steps to make it happen.
These daily actions can even involve spending a few minutes intentionally visualising that desired end result. How will it feel, once you’ve achieved your goals? What will it look like? How will you be? Another simple action could involve ordering a brochure or reaching out to someone who can help – they’re all simple daily action steps that don’t take a lot of time to complete.
If you’re spending your days busy wishing for something to happen, why not ramp up the intention behind them – and start to turn them all into actionable goals? Not only will you feel more in control of your life, you’ll also be raising your energy to match the very thing you’re looking to have in your life!
