How meditation can benefit you and your life
Contrary to popular belief, meditation isn’t about focusing purely on one thought – it’s about letting go of all thoughts in your mind. It’s long been used to deepen one’s spiritual connection with God and self, as we understand our oneness with pure spirit.
Meditation also has so many great benefits in our everyday life too. We’ve all experienced the need to slow down and switch off from our hectic and busy lives – and meditation reminds us how important it is to do this frequently. Meditate frequently, and you’ll understand why it’s so important to remove ourselves from those things that make our lives hectic and busy, in the first place.

In order to be healthy, we need to ensure our mind, body and soul are all nourished. This is why meditation is so popular, as it helps us on a physical, emotional and spiritual level – and that’s so important, when you want to lead a happier, more harmonized life.
How meditation aids the mind
Meditation plays a huge part in your overall mental wellbeing, as it improves your concentration and sharpens your focus. A regular meditation practice of just 20 minutes a day will give you a new clarity on your life. Your intuition increase too, as does your ability to trust this increased knowing. Combine all this together, and you gain a new acceptance of yourself and your life, as your problems become smaller and less important – meaning a much more positive life generally.
How meditation aids the body
There are so many advantages to be gained from meditation, and the impact it has on your body is enormous. As you clear your mind of the unnecessary stress and worry, your neurotransmitters are calmed, taking you into a deeply relaxing state. This in turn, lowers your blood pressure, relaxes your muscles and your nervous system.
During meditation, you breathe at a rate that’s natural and relaxing for you. Every cell in your body is flooded with more oxygen and energy, This improves your circulation, lowers your respiratory rate and helps you breathe better. Your cardiovascular and immune systems both get a boost, as well as your serotonin and endorphin levels – leaving you in a more positive, enthusiastic and happier mood. As your immune system is boosted, your ability to fight off any infections and illnesses.
Physically, this all decreases any tension-related pains, covering a broad spectrum of ailments, such as tension headaches and premenstrual cramps, as well as calming inflammation in your muscles and joints. The healing process speeds up, whilst ageing slows and cholesterol and pain levels both drop.
How meditation aids the soul
Meditation increases your self-awareness about yourself, your world and our reason for being here. It enables us to step past our ego and connect in with our true self and our higher purpose. But more than that, it allows us to feel the connection we have with Source/God/Spirit – whichever term you prefer.
If you’re new to meditation, you can start to reap the benefits immediately. Start by meditating for a couple of minutes and gradually build this time up, as you get comfortable with the practice. As with anything, the more you put in, the more you’ll get out, so make mediation a daily practice and for the length of time that feels right for you.
